Getting Ready for NaNo!

As most of you know, I wrote my last novel during NaNoWriMo 2016 and had a blast doing it.

For those of you who are new to the NaNoWriMo idea, it’s short for National Novel Writing Month. NaNo is a non-profit organization created to encourage writers of all ages and to pursue and accomplish their dream of writing a novel.

I’ve decided to try again this year along with my brother Mal and a few friends that I was thrilled to talk into it. ;P

Temporary Cover Idea

And now I have finally taken up the task of attempting to explain my new novel to you all. 🙂

*tries to explain story*
*tries to write synopsis*
*scratches head*
*thinks*

*realizes*

Okay, so the way I write novels is not quite the way most people do. People have asked me, “So! What’s your next novel about?” and I have answered, “Haha! I don’t know, I haven’t written it yet!” They then proceed to stare at me and I smile back (meanwhile, dying a little on the inside).

The weird thing is….I know exactly what the story is about; I can feel it. But I can’t put it into words until I do. That’s why I’m writing it in the first place, isn’t it? Because it’s a story that I know needs to be told, but it can’t be told with out being written as a book.

Does that make any sense?

With that said, I’ll now try to explain it….x]

They’ve always been my favorite books, the ones not about mankind, but about a man. The ones that drag you out of your own problems, and into the world of another’s. But you also understand them so completely. Where you can’t help but root for the characters because they long for their goal with such passion. Where you forget that they are only part of our imaginations and you get swept up into the story with them. When they laugh your stomach aches from joining in. And when they cry, your own tears fall on to the words that created them.

With the temporary title of “Alexis Accepted”, I have begun to make a sketchy outline of my own such story.

All right, so the story is about a girl….but it’s also about you, and me. It’s about life, I guess, and the human beings that make up the world.

Alexis is a girl, ordinary enough, with her own dreams, hopes, and fears.
Previously homeschooled, it’s a big adjustment when she and her twin brother suddenly find themselves having to attend Emmaus High, a private Christian school, for at least a year.

It is, in it’s own way, a simple book, (as simple as a passionate life can be) hoping to capture a glimpse of the extraordinary in the everyday, and show that maybe it isn’t as plain as we thought it was. I want to make new things familiar, and familiar things new.

It’s my hope that this novel will both make the reader understand and feel understood themselves.

To me it’s important, and me…I’m terrified. ;P

For you Wrimos, Keep Outlining!! (talking to self too!) x)

  3. Can’t wait for your next book. Star Under the City was so wonderful!

Maybe some year I’ll do NaNoWriMo. Right now I’m doing OYAN (One Year Adventure Novel) for school so that takes up a lot of time.

  4. Actually I pretty much started in September….but, um, I kind of got behind.

I’m really just getting into it now, so hopefully I can get a lot done.

    1. True statement…but! Other, deeper characters that I know better, demanded preeminence. I’m almost sure at least Lucas will make it back in through the second draft though. 😉
